Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Variational integrators for degenerate Lagrangians, with application to point vortices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We develop discrete mechanics and variational integrators for a class of degenerate Lagrangian systems, and apply these integrators to a system of point vortices. Excellent numerical behavior is observed.

On the mechanical modeling of the extreme softening/stiffening response of axially loaded tensegrity prisms

open access: yes, 2014
We study the geometrically nonlinear behavior of uniformly compressed tensegrity prisms, through fully elastic and rigid--elastic models. The presented models predict a variety of mechanical behaviors in the regime of large displacements, including an ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Self-supervised probabilistic models for exploring shape memory alloys

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
Recent advancements in machine learning (ML) have revolutionized the field of high-performance materials design. However, developing robust ML models to decipher intricate structure-property relationships in materials remains challenging, primarily due ...

Mechanical behavior of robocast alumina [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Direct fabrication of alumina parts by robocasting was completed. This method is based on three-dimensional deposition of binderless aqueous alumina slurries. Parts were made with different deposition paths and mechanical·testing performed·to determine the effects •of bead alignment. Properties were also compared to.

The jamming transition and new percolation universality classes in particulate systems with attraction

open access: yes, 2007
We numerically study the jamming transition in particulate systems with attraction by investigating their mechanical response at zero temperature. We find three regimes of mechanical behavior separated by two critical transitions--connectivity and ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
