Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Effect of nozzle geometry on critical-subcritical flow transitions

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
The geometry of converging-diverging nozzles affects the conditions at which critical-subcritical flow transition occurs. The objective of this work is to develop guidelines to identify the optimum nozzle geometry that maximizes critical pressure ratio ...

Compressive load bearing and bone architecture of lumbar vertebrae in terms of sex and aging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Relation between vertebral compressive strength and trabecular architecture is presented in terms of aging and sex. Complex in vitro medical-engineering analysis of cadaver human lumbar L1 and L2 vertebrae was executed: densitometry, CT, MRI, mechanical ...

The Stirling engine mechanism optimization

open access: yesPerspectives in Science, 2016
A special type of the gas engine with external combustion is called Stirling engine. The mechanism has two pistons with two volumes inside. The pistons are connected together through cooler, regenerator and warmer. The engine effectivity depends on the piston movement behaviour. The usual sinusoidal time curve leads to low effectiveness.

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Numerical investigation of vortex shedding mechanism for staggered rows of cylinders

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
This numerical investigation deals with study of flow past seven square cylinders arranged in staggered configuration. Simulations to the underlying problem are carried out by using the single relaxation time lattice Boltzmann method.

Multi‐omic characterization of consensus molecular subtype 1 (CMS1) colorectal cancer with dampened immune response improves precision medicine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study highlights the importance of multi‐omic analyses in characterizing colorectal cancers. Indeed, our analysis revealed a rare CMS1 exhibiting dampened immune activation, including reduced PD‐1 expression, moderate CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, and suppressed JAK/STAT pathway.
