Efficiency of the general quantum-mechanical Carnot engine [PDF]
A quantum-mechanical analog of the Carnot engine reversibly working at vanishing temperature, shortly termed the quantum-mechanical Carnot engine, is discussed. A general formula for the efficiency of such an engine with an arbitrary confining potential is presented.

Body Limb Movement Limiter [PDF]
A body limb movement limiter restrains the movement of a person\u27s arm so as to protect the person\u27s shoulder or restrains the movement of a person\u27s lower leg with respect to the upper leg so as to protect the person\u27s knee. The device uses a

Formal Quantum Software Engineering: Introducing the Formal Methods of Software Engineering to Quantum Computing [PDF]
Quantum computing (QC) represents the future of computing systems, but the tools for reasoning about the quantum model of computation, in which the laws obeyed are those on the quantum mechanical scale, are still a mix of linear algebra and Dirac notation; two subjects more suitable for physicists, rather than computer scientists and software engineers.

Quantum Analog of Carnot Engine [PDF]
In order to build a quantum analog of traditional Carnot engine, a common choice is replacing the two thermodynamic adiabatic processes with two quantum mechanical adiabatic processes. In general, such quantum Carnot engine has six strokes. We analyze the efficiency of such six-stroke quantum Carnot engine in a perturbative way.

A Proposed Learner-Centered Mechatronics Engineering Instructional Program [PDF]
This paper examines the need and requirements for a mechatronics degree program. The results of a survey of the few existing programs in this field are provided. Then, using a case study example for Virginia Tech, a proposed mechatronics curriculum based

Quantum-mechanical engine models and their efficiencies [PDF]
Based on quantum thermodynamic processes, we make a quantum-mechanical (QM) extension of the typical heat engine cycles, such as the Carnot, Brayton, Otto, and Diesel cycles, etc. The temperature is not included in these QM engine cycles, as lies in the fact that the concept of energy is well-defined in quantum mechanics, temperature \emph{a priori} is

Nanosecond Near-Spinodal Homogeneous Boiling of Water Superheated by Pulsed CO/sub 2/ Laser [PDF]
The fast boiling dynamics of superheated surface layers of bulk water cavitating under near-spinodal conditions during nanosecond C O2 laser heating pulses was studied using contact broad-band photoacoustic spectroscopy.
