The Steroid Feedback Mechanism
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1957The mechanism whereby high blood levels of the adrenal cortical hormones inhibit the secretion of ACTH following stress has been investigated. The 4-hour change in circulating eosinophils was used as criterion for ACTH secretion. DCA administration into intact rats prevented the endogenous mobilization of ACTH following stress.

Mechanisms for Haptic Torque Feedback
First Joint Eurohaptics Conference and Symposium on Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Environment and Teleoperator Systems, 2005This paper presents a state of the art in torque and force/torque feedback mechanisms, from 1-dof rotary knobs to redundant 10-dof mechanisms. This preliminary study, together with our recent attainments in haptics and virtual reality, draws future lines of work for our research.

Involvement of Catecholamines in Feedback Mechanisms
1973Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the involvement of Catecholamine (CA)-containing neurons and terminals that occur in discrete regions of the anterior hypothalamus and median-eminence arcuate areas. These include the tuberoinfundibular-dopamine neurons, strategically located in arcuate nucleus with fiber systems extending to the median ...

The outrigger: a prehistoric feedback mechanism
42nd IEEE International Conference on Decision and Control (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37475), 2004The paper gives a cursory explanation of the dynamics of boat stability and discusses the use of an outrigger in providing roll stability for a dugout canoe. A qualitative description of the operation of an outrigger is given, specifically how it satisfies the Mayr (1970) criteria of a feedback mechanism.

Feedback mechanism in sulpiride‐induced hyperprolactinaemia
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1983Summary. Feedback of oestrogen on gonadotrophin release was studied in five normally cycling normoprolactinaemic women who were rendered moderately hyperprolactinaemic by oral administration of sulpiride (150mg daily) for 11 consecutive days. Five patients with peptic ulcer, who had been given 150 mg of sulpiride for 3–18 months and had chronic marked ...

No ‘Ultra-Short Feedback Mechanism’ for ACTH
Neuroendocrinology, 2008The influence of the ACTH concentration in the medium on the spontaneous release of ACTH by isolated pituitary cells or single pituitary halves has been studied in vitro. The ACTH concentration was altered either by increasing the incubation volume or by the addition of ACTH. The ACTH concentration in the medium did not affect the release of endogenous

OESTROGEN‐GONADOTROPHIN FEEDBACK MECHANISMS IN THE PUERPERIUM
Clinical Endocrinology, 1981SUMMARYThe effect of oestradiol benzoate on serum gonadotrophin concentrations before and after LHRH administration was studied in lactating and non‐lactating women at 3 and 6 weeks post‐partum. Except in the non‐lactating women at 6 weeks, basal serum FSH concentrations were suppressed by oestrogen.

Drought in the Sahara: A Biogeophysical Feedback Mechanism
Science, 1975Two integrations of a global general circulation model, differing only in the prescribed surface albedo in the Sahara, show that an increase in albedo resulting from a decrease in plant cover causes a decrease in rainfall. Thus any tendency for plant cover to decrease would be reinforced by a decrease in rainfall, and could initiate or perpetuate a ...
