Mechanical modeling of pimple growth
Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2019Pimple is one of the most common skin diseases for humans, whose growth cause pain yet the corresponding mechanical analysis is lacking. A finite element model is developed to quantify the deformation field with the expansion of follicle, and then the mechanical stimulus is related to the sensation of pain during the development of pimple.

Molecular Mechanisms of Axonal Growth
2008Outgrowth of axons during neuronal development, as well as their regeneration after injury, of the adult nervous system is controlled by specific extracellular cues which are diffusible, or bound to cell membranes or extracellular matrix. The exact molecular mechanisms through which these extracellular signals are integrated by the growing axon, are ...

Mechanisms of Endothelial Growth Control
American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, 1992Abstract It is well documented that vascular endothelial cells constitute an unusually quiescent epithelial cell population. These slowly dividing cells are known to undergo more rapid division in association with wound healing as well as a variety of pathologic conditions such as tumor vascularization and diabetic retinopathy ...

On the growth mechanism of the bacterial chromosome
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1963Physical methods have been used to determine the number of growth points on the DNA of E. coli bacteria. The thymine analogue [14C]5-bromouracil was incorporated into DNA for varying short times. The labelled DNA was isolated with a molecular weight of 4 × 107. The density distribution of the radioactivity was investigated in CsCl gradients.

Growth instabilities in mechanical breakdown
Physical Review E, 1994A linear stability analysis of a circular crack growing in an elastic medium in two dimensions is presented. Two boundary conditions at the outer boundary are considered, namely, a constant strain and a constant pressure. Size effects are included by assuming a finite distance between the inner and the outer boundaries.

A general mechanism of polycrystalline growth
Nature Materials, 2004Most research into microstructure formation during solidification has focused on single-crystal growth ranging from faceted crystals to symmetric dendrites. However, these growth forms can be perturbed by heterogeneities, yielding a rich variety of polycrystalline growth patterns.

Mechanisms of Steroid Impairment of Growth
Hormone Research in Paediatrics, 2002With child growth being multifactorial and the glucocorticoids (GC) having many target physiological and biochemical mechanisms, growth and the GC collide in several meeting points. Indirectly, GC have a general anti-anabolic and catabolic influences that include bone, cartilage and muscle proteins.
