Mechanical and physico-chemical study of sulphur additives effect in milling of high strength steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The authors would like to express their appreciation to the TOTAL France Company for the technical and financial contribution to this study and to Béatrice Vacher for TEM images. Most machining operations require the presence of a cutting fluid in order ...

Mechanics and Dynamics of Helical Milling Operations

open access: yesStrojniški vestnik – Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2014
This paper presents analytical models dealing with time domain cutting forces and the time and frequency domain dynamics of helical milling operations. The cutting forces both on the side-cutting edges and on the end-cutting edges along the helical feed path are modelled by considering the tangential and the axial motions of the tool.

Phase Transitions in Mechanically Milled Mn-Al-C Permanent Magnets

open access: yesMetals, 2014
Mn-Al powders were prepared by rapid solidification followed by high-energy mechanical milling. The rapid solidification resulted in single-phase ε. The milling was performed in both the ε phase and the τ phase, with the τ-phase formation accomplished ...

Influence of material removal on the dynamic behavior of thin-walled structures in peripheral milling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Machining is a material removal process that alters the dynamic properties during machining operations. The peripheral milling of a thin-walled structure generates vibration of the workpiece and this influences the quality of the machined surface.

Analytical Prediction of Residual Stress in the Machined Surface during Milling

open access: yesMetals, 2020
An analytical prediction model for residual stress during milling is established, which considers the thermal-mechanical coupling effect. Considering the effects of thermal-mechanical coupling, the residual stress distribution in the workpiece is ...

Surface roughness variation of thin wall milling, related to modal interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
High-speed milling operations of thin walls are often limited by the so-called regenerative effect that causes poor surface finish. The aim of this paper is to examine the link between chatter instability and surface roughness evolution for thin wall ...

Mechanochemical synthesis and characterization of nanodimensional iron–cobalt spinel oxides. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Iron–cobalt spinel oxide nanoparticles, CoxFe3−xO4 (x = 1, 2), of sizes below 10 nm have been prepared by combining chemical precipitation with high-energy ball milling. For comparison, their analogues obtained by thermal synthesis have also been studied.

Mechanical and Microstructural Response of an Aluminum Nanocomposite Reinforced with Carbon-Based Particles [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2016
The present work deals with the study of some aluminum (Al) composites reinforced with metallized-graphite (MG) particles prepared by mechanical milling and powder metallurgy routes.

Toolpath dependent stability lobes for the milling of thin-walled parts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The milling of thin-walled parts can become a seriously complex problem because the parts have variable dynamics. Firstly, the dynamics evolution of the part has been calculated through Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis.
