MECHANICAL MODELS OF CHUA'S CIRCUIT
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2002In this paper we present two different examples of electromechanical realization of Chua's circuit and one of Chua's unfolding circuit. In addition, a novel mechanism is proposed for realizing Chua's equations in a purely mechanical way using friction properties.

A mechanical model for spherical fragments penetrating gelatine
International Journal of Impact Engineering, 2019The behaviour and effects of a spherical fragment penetrating a simulant and those of biological tissue are similar. To accurately describe the interaction between spherical fragments and muscle tissue, this study first discusses the wounding mechanism ...

Mathematical Modeling in Contact Mechanics
2023Summary: We present some considerations on the modeling and variational analysis of mathematical models describing the contact between a deformable body and an obstacle. We exemplify our approach by the study of an elasto-visco-plastic problem with a normal compliance and Coulomb friction.

The chapter describes the work that was performed in the soft tissue biomechanics laboratory at Eindhoven University of Technology on the biomechanics of skin. A rationale is given for the changes from standard testing methods to inverse methods, from in vitro to in vivo and back to in vitro testing and for the more detailed studies on individual skin ...

Mechanical models and the mobility of robots and mechanisms
Robotica, 2014SUMMARYMobility is a fundamental parameter of mechanisms expressing in a qualitative manner their kinematic and dynamic properties. The mobility formulae presented in literature take into consideration some of the structural entities, such as bodies, joints, constraints, closed loops, and space characteristics; however, the specific mechanical model ...

Dynamic performance and mechanical model analysis of a shear thickening fluid damper
Smart materials and structures (Print), 2018This paper presents an experimental study of the dynamic performance of a self-developed shear thickening fluid (STF) damper and its mechanical model was proposed by nonlinear fitting. First, STF samples with different mass fraction and dispersion medium

Mechanics of the cell: Interaction mechanisms and mechanobiological models
2020The importance of cell mechanics has long been recognized for the cell development and function. Biomechanics plays an important role in cell metabolism, regulation of mechanotransduction pathways and also modulation of nuclear response. The mechanical properties of the cell are likely determined by, among many others, the cytoskeleton elasticity ...

A mechanical model of the gating spring mechanism of stereocilia
Journal of Biomechanics, 2009The stereocilium is the basic sensory unit of nature's mechanotransducers, which include the cochlear and vestibular organs. In noisy environments, stereocilia display high sensitivity to miniscule stimuli, effectively dealing with a situation that is a design challenge in micro systems.

Models of morphogenesis: the mechanisms and mechanics of cell rearrangement
Current Opinion in Genetics & Development, 2004The directional rearrangement of cells is a key mechanism for reshaping embryos. Despite substantial recent progress in understanding the basic signal transduction pathways that allow cells to orient themselves in space, the extrinsic cues that activate these pathways are just beginning to be understood.
