Mechanical Properties of Glass Forming Systems

open access: yes, 2007
We address the interesting temperature range of a glass forming system where the mechanical properties are intermediate between those of a liquid and a solid.

Surfaceome: a new era in the discovery of immune evasion mechanisms of circulating tumor cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the era of immunotherapies, many patients either do not respond or eventually develop resistance. We propose to pave the way for proteomic analysis of surface‐expressed proteins called surfaceome, of circulating tumor cells. This approach seeks to identify immune evasion mechanisms and discover potential therapeutic targets. Circulating tumor cells (

Modeling Dispersive Coupling and Losses of Localized Optical and Mechanical Modes in Optomechanical Crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Periodically structured materials can sustain both optical and mechanical excitations which are tailored by the geometry. Here we analyze the properties of dispersively coupled planar photonic and phononic crystals: optomechanical crystals. In particular,

Impact of Hydrogenation on the Stability and Mechanical Properties of Amorphous Boron Nitride [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Interconnect materials with ultralow dielectric constant, and good thermal and mechanical properties are crucial for the further miniaturization of electronic devices. Recently, it has been demonstrated that ultrathin amorphous boron nitride (aBN) films have a very low dielectric constant, high density (above 2.1 g/cm3), high thermal stability, and ...

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

Thermoacoustic Modeling of Cryogenic Hydrogen

open access: yesEnergies
Future thermoacoustic cryocoolers employing hydrogen as a working fluid can reduce reliance on helium and improve hydrogen liquefaction processes. Traditional thermoacoustic modeling methods often assume ideal-gas thermophysical properties and neglect ...

Improved saline corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement resistances of superaustenitic stainless steel by PIII nitriding

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
PIII nitriding was applied to superaustenitic steel to improve wear resistance without compromising pitting and hydrogen embrittlement corrosion resistance. Nitriding at temperatures between 300 °C and 400 °C produced modified layers rich in γN phase and

Investigation of Mechanical Properties of Cryogenically Treated Music Wire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
It has been reported that treating music wire (high carbon steel wire) by cooling to cryogenic temperatures can enhance its mechanical properties with particular reference to those properties important for musical performance.

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

High-Accuracy Approximation of High-Rank Derivatives: Isotropic Finite Differences Based on Lattice-Boltzmann Stencils

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
We propose isotropic finite differences for high-accuracy approximation of high-rank derivatives. These finite differences are based on direct application of lattice-Boltzmann stencils.
