Design of transtibial mechanical prosthesis with feedback to ground irregularities
2021 IEEE 2nd International Congress of Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering (CI-IB&BI), 2021Most of the mechanical prostheses available do not have many of the important characteristics of the foot, such as flexibility, mobility and the ability to adapt to any type of terrain.

Thrombosis of Mechanical Mitral Valve Prosthesis
Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 2005Obstruction of mechanical valve prostheses is a rare but potentially lethal complication following valve replacement surgery. Identifying the etiology and differentiation between thrombus, pannus, and vegetation obstructing the valve prosthesis can pose a diagnostic challenge.

Mechanical failure of omniphase penile prosthesis
Urology, 1988We report a case of mechanical failure due to cable breakage in both cylinders of an OmniPhase penile prosthesis. The failure occurred six weeks after implantation and was manifested by inability to activate the device. X-ray films showed cable fracture at the point of insertion into the activator mechanism bilaterally.

Mechanical Failure with Malleable Penile Prosthesis
Urology, 2007Mechanical failure with a malleable penile prosthesis is very rare, and no mechanical failure has been reported with the AMS 650 malleable penile prosthesis. A 67-year-old man, using the AMS 650 malleable penile prosthesis without a problem since 1999, presented with right penile deformity and difficulty in sexual intercourse for the preceding 2 months.

Finite element modeling of retinal prosthesis mechanics
Journal of Neural Engineering, 2009Epiretinal prostheses used to treat degenerative retina diseases apply stimulus via an electrode array fixed to the ganglion cell side of the retina. Mechanical pressure applied by these arrays to the retina, both during initial insertion and throughout chronic use, could cause sufficient retinal damage to reduce the device's effectiveness. In order to

Successful thrombolysis on a mechanical tricuspid prosthesis
European Heart Journal, 1989Recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is presently used for the treatment of different clinical entities, mostly myocardial infarction. Its use for treatment of thrombotic dysfunction of prosthetic cardiac valves is more recent and has been only rarely reported.

A DISASTROUS CASE OF MECHANICAL PROSTHESIS VALVE THROMBOSIS
European Heart Journal, SupplementIn September 2024, a 57–year–old woman came to the emergency department with worsening dyspnea. Her medical history includes an aortic bioprosthesis implantation in July 2019 for suspected endocarditis and closure of a secundum atrial septal defect. In

Developments in mechanical heart valve prosthesis
Sadhana, 2003Artificial heart valves are engineered devices used for replacing diseased or damaged natural valves of the heart. Most commonly used for replacement are mechanical heart valves and biological valves. This paper briefly outlines the evolution, designs employed, materials being used,. and important factors that affect the performance of mechanical heart
