Traditionally, the goal of mechanism design was to promote socially desirable behaviour of rational agents, to achieve fairness, or to promote efficiency. I would like to suggest a new subfield of mechanism design, Responsible Mechanism Design, focused on achieving individual accountability of agents for their contributions to the outcome of collective

Mechanics of innovative responsive polymers
Mechanics Research Communications, 2019Abstract The study of responsive structural systems and materials, whose main aim is the development of so-called smart devices capable of autonomously respond to external stimuli with some desired detectable reaction, is nowadays a very attractive research field.

Mechanisms to Explain Surfactant Responses
Neonatology, 2006Surfactant is now standard of care for infants with respiratory distress syndrome. Surfactant treatments are effective because of complex metabolic interactions between surfactant and the preterm lung. The large treatment dose functions as substrate; it is taken up by the preterm lung and is reprocessed and secreted with improved function.

Activation of mechanical responses in leukocytes
Biorheology, 1990Different kinds of leukocytes undergo cytoskeleton-dependent mechanical responses associated wit their specific physiological functions. We have investigated cellular stiffening of several types of leukocytes using a method which measures the force resisting cellular indentation.

Mechanical responses of the mammalian cochlea
Progress in Neurobiology, 1997Recent findings in auditory research have significantly changed our views of the processes involved in hearing. Novel techniques and new approaches to investigate the mammalian cochlea have expanded our knowledge about the mechanical events occurring at physiologically relevant stimulus intensities.

Mechanisms of the systemic inflammatory response
Perfusion, 1999The purpose of inflammation is to combat various agents that may injure the tissues. Conditions such as CPB can often cause systemic inflammation and dysfunction of major organs. Pulmonary, renal, myocardial and intestinal function may suffer various degrees of impairment during and after cardiac surgery. Although changes in major organs usually remain

Mechanism of the human diving response
Integrative Physiological and Behavioral Science, 1994The diving response in human beings is characterized by breath-holding, slowing of the heart rate (diving bradycardia), reduction of limb blood flow and a gradual rise in the mean arterial blood pressure. The bradycardia results from increased parasympathetic stimulus to the cardiac pacemaker. The reduction in limb blood flow is due to vasoconstriction

Immune Response Mechanisms in Haemophilia A
HämostaseologieAbstract Haemophilia A (HA) is an X-linked bleeding disorder caused by the deficiency or dysfunction of coagulation factor VIII (FVIII). Substitution therapy with recombinant or plasma-derived FVIII effectively restores haemostasis but carries the risk of eliciting FVIII-specific neutralizing antibodies known as inhibitors.
