Mechanical Scarification of Dodder Seeds with a Handheld Rotary Tool

Weed Technology, 2012
Dodder seeds are physically dormant because of hard seed coats and do not readily germinate without scarification. Reliable methods of scarification for small lots of dodder seed are needed to facilitate laboratory, greenhouse, and field research projects.

Dormancy Mechanism and the Effect of Scarification in the Germination of Halimium halimifolium Seeds

Journal of Plant Physiology, 1988
Abstract Germination of Halimium halimifolium seeds was very low during the experimental period. The scarification treatment enhanced the germination significantly at all the three temperatures tested, indicating that H. halimifolium seeds are endowed with complex dormancy mechanisms.

The influence of heat and mechanical scarification on the germination capacity of Quercus pyrenaica seeds

New Forests, 1998
The germination capacity of Quercus pyrenaica seeds subjected to different temperatures (60°C, 100°C and 150°C for 1 and 5 minutes) and mechanical scarification was studied. Germination increased after mechanical scarification and heat treatment at 60°C for 1 minute.
