Germination in Prosopis ferox seeds: effects of mechanical, chemical and biological scarificators
Journal of Arid Environments, 2002Since Prosopis ferox seeds have a hard coat, scarification is needed in order to liberate seeds from their physical dormancy. We analysed the effect of mechanical and chemical scarification agents, and assessed whether the passage through goat and donkey digestive tracts is a scarifying mechanism.

Mechanical scarification ofstylosanthes guianensis cv. Oxley seed
Proceedings of the Annual Congresses of the Grassland Society of Southern Africa, 1979In a series of experiments, in-pod seed of Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Oxley from various sources, containing high proportions of hard seed, was mechanically scarified either by abrasion or impact treatments, involving different machine speeds and numbers of passes through the machinery.

Mechanical Scarification of Dormant Wild Rice Seed1
Agronomy Journal, 1978AbstractWild rice (Zizania aquatica L.), which formerly grew only under natural conditions until the early 1960's, is now being grown as a cultivated field crop. A 3 to 6‐month, post‐harvest seed dormancy hinders the continued development of wild rice as a field crop. Part of this dormancy is due to an impermeable pericarp. Scarification with chemicals

Pterocarpus angolensis is a savanna tree species growing mostly in the miombo and undifferentiated woodlands found in the southern and central parts of Africa. Exploitation for its medicinal and commercial uses has led to a diminishing of wild populations. Artificial propagation, domestication and exploitation in a sustainable manner depend on detailed

Effect of storage, photoperiod and mechanical scarification on seed germination in Ocimum americanum
Physiologia Plantarum, 1984Seeds of Ocimum americanum L. display an absolute light requirement for germination. The minimal length of the daily photoperiod required to induce a high germination decreased with increasing seed age, but the length of the photoperiod under potential control of terminal far‐red light inhibition remained unchanged.

Senna (Senna alexandrina Mill.) is an annual medicinal plant commonly known as “senna” or “Alexandrian senna” primarily known for its agricultural, industrial and ethno-medicinal purposes which belong to family leguminoceae. Senna seeds usually exhibit seed coat-imposed dormancy which may be due to impermeability of testa to water and gases.

A simple method of mechanical scarification to break seed dormancy in Viola odorata
Abstracts Viola odorata , also known as sweet violet, is a valuable plant for its fragrance and medicinal properties, but the cultivation is hindered by poor seed germination due to dormancy. The dormancy of V.Joo Young Kim +2 more
