Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Research on mechanical specific energy model and parameters optimization of deep coal seam drilling considering jet-screw interaction

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan
The Linxing Block on the eastern margin of Ordos Basin contains abundant coalbed methane resources. However, drilling operations in this area face challenges such as low efficiency and high technical difficulty due to factors including deep burial depth ...

Specific Mechanical Energy and Thermal Degradation of Poly(lactic acid) and Poly(caprolactone)/Date Pits Composites

open access: yesInternational Journal of Polymer Science, 2018
The compatibility of date pits (DP) with polylactic acid (PLA) or polycaprolactone (PCL) is investigated. Composites were prepared by compounding PLA or PCL with date pits at 10, 20, 30, and 40% wt/wt and extruded.

Irregular Oscillatory-Patterns in the Early-Time Region of Coherent Phonon Generation in Silicon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Coherent phonon (CP) generation in an undoped Si crystal is theoretically investigated to shed light on unexplored quantum-mechanical effects in the early-time region immediately after the irradiation of ultrashort laser pulse.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The Impact of Mechanically-Imposed Shear on Clogging, Fouling and Energy Demand for an Immersed Membrane Bioreactor

open access: yesMembranes, 2018
The impact of the application of mechanically-imposed shear on the propensity for fouling and clogging (or “sludging„—the agglomeration of sludge solids in the membrane channel) of an immersed flat sheet (iFS) membrane bioreactor (MBR ...

The Pollutant Diethylhexyl Phthalate Regulates Hepatic Energy Metabolism via Species-Specific PPARα-Dependent Mechanisms

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 2010
The modulation of energetic homeostasis by pollutants has recently emerged as a potential contributor to the onset of metabolic disorders. Diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) is a widely used industrial plasticizer to which humans are widely exposed. Phthalates can activate the three peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) isotypes on cellular ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Relationship between quantum mechanics with and without monopoles

open access: yes, 2006
We show that the inclusion of the monopole field in the three- and five-dimensional spherically symmetric quantum mechanical systems, supplied by the addition of the special centrifugal term, does not yield any change in the radial wavefunction and in ...
