Mechanical Testing of Instrumentation
Spine, 1998Spinal instrumentation has a primarily mechanical function, but mechanical testing procedures are designed more by expediency than by their ability to evaluate whether instrumentation will produce a good clinical outcome. Differing testing protocols preclude direct comparisons between measurements made in different laboratories.

Computer Languages, 1980
A computer program has been written in PL/I to check the correctness of proofs in an axiomatic theory. A notation for the statements of the theory is described. Application examples are provided.

Precision Tests of Quantum Mechanics
Physical Review Letters, 1989It is proposed to set stringent limits on possible nonlinear corrections to ordinary quantum mechanics by searching for the detuning of resonant transitions. A suggested nonlinear generalization of quantum mechanics is used to show that such detuning would be expected in the rf transition in $^{9}\mathrm{Be}^{+}$ ions that is used to set frequency ...

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1991
Abstract This work is the third in a series of seven monographs on the Characterization of High Temperature Materials under the general editorship of M. McLean. Prior volumes related to microstructural and chemical characterization. The present volume represents the proceedings of a December 1988 seminar, sponsored and organized by the ...

Mechanical testing of urinary calculi
World Journal of Urology, 1993The ability to predict how easily a stone will break in response to extracorporeal and intracorporeal lithotripsy would be advantageous for the urologist. In a study of fragments from 52 urinary calculi, in vitro microhardness results were found to increase for the series struvite to brushite.

Mechanical Testing of Spinal Instrumentation
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1988Clinically, implant failure is often the result of fatigue from continuous cyclic loading. Because of the inadequacies of long-run cyclic testing, fatigue susceptibility of implants was investigated by means of strain measurements and stress analysis under physiologic loads. The implants were equipped with strain gauges during load-deformation testing,

Verification tests in solid mechanics
Engineering with Computers, 2013Code verification against analytical solutions is a prerequisite to code validation against experimental data. Though solid-mechanics codes have established basic verification standards such as patch tests and convergence tests, few (if any) similar standards exist for testing solid-mechanics constitutive models under nontrivial massive deformations ...

Mechanical Testing of Epiphysiodesis Screws
Orthopedics, 2018Epiphysiodesis is performed to treat leg-length discrepancies and angular deformities in children. However, when placed across a physis to modulate growth, screws can bend or break postoperatively. This study evaluated the mechanical properties of 3 different screw designs commonly used when performing an epiphysiodesis.

Abstract Mechanical tests are performed to evaluate the durability of gears under load. The chapter first discusses the processes involved in the computations of stress for test parameters of gear. Next, the chapter reviews the four areas of specimen characterization of a test program, namely dimensional, surface finish texture ...
