Mechanical Testing of Spinal Instrumentation

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1988
Clinically, implant failure is often the result of fatigue from continuous cyclic loading. Because of the inadequacies of long-run cyclic testing, fatigue susceptibility of implants was investigated by means of strain measurements and stress analysis under physiologic loads. The implants were equipped with strain gauges during load-deformation testing,

Verification tests in solid mechanics

Engineering with Computers, 2013
Code verification against analytical solutions is a prerequisite to code validation against experimental data. Though solid-mechanics codes have established basic verification standards such as patch tests and convergence tests, few (if any) similar standards exist for testing solid-mechanics constitutive models under nontrivial massive deformations ...

Mechanical Testing of Epiphysiodesis Screws

Orthopedics, 2018
Epiphysiodesis is performed to treat leg-length discrepancies and angular deformities in children. However, when placed across a physis to modulate growth, screws can bend or break postoperatively. This study evaluated the mechanical properties of 3 different screw designs commonly used when performing an epiphysiodesis.

The mechanical testing of bone in bending

Journal of Biomechanics, 1973
Abstract A method is described of calculating the bending moment at failure and the modulus of elasticity in bending of bone when the stress-strain curves for tension and compression are given. Cortical bone specimens were tested in tension, compression and three point bending and the results compared with the formulae developed.

Mechanical Testing

2005
Abstract Mechanical tests are performed to evaluate the durability of gears under load. The chapter first discusses the processes involved in the computations of stress for test parameters of gear. Next, the chapter reviews the four areas of specimen characterization of a test program, namely dimensional, surface finish texture ...

The MacQuarrie Test for Mechanical Ability

Psychometrika, 1948
Data originally analyzed by Charles H. Goodman on the MacQuarrie Test for Mechanical Ability are subjected to the principal axes factoring method. The maximum variance was extracted with three factors. Rotation to an oblique simple structure yielded a factor pattern which satisfies the simple structure concept more adequately than the orthogonal factor

Mechanical Testing

1998
Abstract This article reviews the various types of mechanical testing methods, including hardness testing; tension testing; compression testing; dynamic fracture testing; fracture toughness testing; fatigue life testing; fatigue crack growth testing; and creep, stress-rupture, and stress-relaxation testing. Shear testing, torsion testing,
