Stuck Mechanical Tricuspid Valve Prosthesis [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 2012
A 44-year–old woman underwent mitral valve and tricuspid valve (TV) replacement 6 years earlier using an ATS bileaflet tilting disc prostheses (ATS Medical Inc., Minneapolis, MN) for combined valvular stenosis and regurgitation because of rheumatic heart disease.

Electrocapillary Modulated Interfacial Tension Amplifies Liquid Metal Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presented an electrocapillary‐enhanced magnetohydrodynamic pumping strategy that harnesses the Lorentz force and interfacial tension modulation of liquid metal droplets to achieve amplified fluidic power. The system enabled low‐voltage, self‐oscillating fluidic transduction with enhanced pressure and flow generation, supporting compact ...

Pannus-Related Mechanical Valve Dysfunction Leading to Hemodynamic Shock

open access: yesArchives of Clinical and Experimental Surgery, 2012
Mechanical prosthetic valve dysfunction caused by pannus formation is rare. Pannus restricts movement of prosthetic valve leaflets, resulting in severe aortic regurgitation.

Ionic Precursors Transformed Into Vinyl Acetate Synthesis Catalyst via Reaction‐Driven Restructuring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that a simple physical mixture of Pd and Au ionic precursors, KOAc promoter, and SiO2 support can transform into a highly active vinyl acetate synthesis catalyst through reaction‐driven restructuring. The results highlight reaction‐induced restructuring as an innovative and sustainable catalyst design strategy.

An unusual thrombolytic therapy decision in prosthetic valve thrombosis during early pregnancy

open access: yesTürk Kardiyoloji Derneği Arşivi, 2015
Pregnancy is among the risk factors for mechanical valve thrombosis, and even though thrombolytic therapy is contraindicated during pregnancy, it may be used in the treatment of this life-threatening complication.

An Edible Chitosan‐Based Acoustic Sensor for Sound‐Responsive Actuation in Edible Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an edible acoustic sensor for robotic food and edible robotics. Built from a chitosan piezoelectric film between gold electrodes, the sensor enables acoustic communication through ON/OFF keying. Integrated into an edible robot with pneumatically actuated arms and neck, it responds to high‐frequency tones.

3D Hydrodynamic Flow Lithography

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Continuous‐ and stop‐flow lithography are widely used to fabricate multi‐dimensional microstructures whose cross‐sectional morphology is dictated by the flow profile of multiple co‐flowing streams. Here, we introduce three‐dimensional hydrodynamic flow lithography (3D HFL), a platform for programmable generation of multi‐layered flow profiles ...

Dynamically Actuated Reconfigurable Topographical Surface Enables Active Control of Implant‐Associated Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dynamically actuated reconfigurable topographical surface (DARTS) integrates contact‐mediated bactericidal nanotopography with programmable mechanical actuation to actively disrupt bacterial biofilms. Dynamic surface reconfiguration enhances bacterial killing and suppresses implant‐associated infections in vivo, providing a new strategy for active ...

Mechanical versus biological aortic valve replacement strategies. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Aortic valve replacement (AVR) is the most frequently performed procedure in valve surgery. The controversy about the optimal choice of the prosthetic valve is as old as the technique itself. Currently there is no perfect valve substitute available.
