A review of the state of art in applying Biot theory to acoustic propagation through the bone [PDF]

open access: yes
Understanding the propagation of acoustic waves through a liquid-perfused porous solid framework such as cancellous bone is an important pre-requisite to improving the diagnosis of osteoporosis by ultrasound.

On the Some Particularities of the Torsional Wave Dispersion in a Finitely Pre-Deformed Hollow Sandwich Cylinder

open access: yes, 2012
This paper develops the investigations started in a work by Akbarov, Kepceler and Mert Egilmez (2011) and studies the some particularities of the torsional wave dispersion in a finitely pre-deformed sandwich hollow cylinder. The mentioned particularities

Long‐Range Coordination Environment Modulates Single‐Atom Local States and Systemic Impact on CO2 Photoconversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Terminal groups on Cu porphyrins modulate the electronic states of single‐atom Cu centers through a long‐range electronic effect, without altering the Cu coordination geometry. Meanwhile, a multi‐descriptor framework is established that incorporates porphyrin regulation, hybrid catalyst properties, and CO2 photoreduction capabilities.

Differential water and imidacloprid transport under unsaturated Florida citrus field conditions

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal
Citrus production in Florida declined in the past 20 years by >72% due to citrus greening disease which is vectored by Asian citrus psyllid (ACP). Extensive use of pesticides such as imidacloprid (IDP) to manage ACP raises concerns of environmental ...

Energy redistribution and wave attenuation in layered SSR-MSR semiconductor metamaterials with coupled photo-thermoelastic and carrier effects

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Purpose: This study investigates the coupled propagation of thermoelastic, carrier (plasma), and microelongation waves in semiconductor metamaterials consisting of a solid semiconductor region (SSR) and a microelongated semiconductor region (MSR).

Self-induced transparency of long water waves over bathymetry: the dispersive shock mechanism

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics
The shoreline hazard posed by ocean long waves such as tsunamis and meteotsunamis critically depends on the fraction of energy transmitted across the shallow near-shore shelf. In linear setting, bathymetric inhomogeneities of length comparable to the incident wavelength act as a protective high-pass filter, reflecting long waves and allowing only ...

Invisible Polymer Walls Enhance Reorientational Optical Nonlinearity in Oligothiophene‐Doped Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The polymer wall stabilized dye‐doped liquid crystals (PWLCs) enhance the sensitivity of photoinduced molecular reorientation in dye‐doped LC systems. The PWLC with an invisible polymer wall successfully reduces the threshold intensity and functions as an optical limiter under the incidence of low intensity light laser source.

Effects of Wave Nonlinearity on Solute Migration in Deformable Sediments

open access: yes
This study employs a two-dimensional numerical model, coupling Biot’s poro-elastic theory with advection-dispersion equations, to examine the impact of wave nonlinearity on solute transport in deformable seabed sediment.
