Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Treatment planning with a 2.5 MV photon beam for radiation therapy
Abstract Purpose The shallow depth of maximum dose and higher dose fall‐off gradient of a 2.5 MV beam along the central axis that is available for imaging on linear accelerators is investigated for treatment of shallow tumors and sparing the organs at risk (OARs) beyond it.

Mechanisms and mechanics of auditory masking
It is rare to hear just one sound at a time. More often than not, our experience of listening to someone speak, or hearing a piece of music, is made more challenging, and possibly more annoying, by the presence of interfering sound, be it traffic noise, air-conditioning rumble, or other people talking at the same time. In extreme situations, such as in

Bohmian mechanics contradicts quantum mechanics [PDF]
It is shown that, for a harmonic oscillator in the ground state, Bohmian mechanics and quantum mechanics predict values of opposite sign for certain time correlations. The discrepancy can be explained by the fact that Bohmian mechanics has no natural way to accomodate the Heisenberg picture, since the local expectation values that define the beables ...

We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

Volume staging for arteriovenous malformation SRS treatment using VMAT
Abstract Volume staging involves dividing the target volume into smaller parts and treating each part separately. In this study, the feasibility of volume‐staged stereotactic radiosurgery (VS‐SRS) on a linear accelerator using volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and a frameless patient positioning system is investigated.

Automatic Game Design via Mechanic Generation [PDF]
Game designs often center on the game mechanics---rules governing the logical evolution of the game. We seek to develop an intelligent system that generates computer games. As first steps towards this goal we present a composable and cross-domain representation for game mechanics that draws from AI planning action representations.

Adaptive ERK reactivation hinders FLT3 tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment in FLT3/ITD acute myeloid leukemia. Here, we report that FLT3 TKI treatment rapidly induces AXL expression and upregulation that is temporally associated with the adaptive ERK reactivation.

AbstractWe introduce the notion of coordination mechanisms to improve the performance in systems with independent selfish and non-colluding agents. The quality of a coordination mechanism is measured by its price of anarchy—the worst-case performance of a Nash equilibrium over the (centrally controlled) social optimum.
