Mechanical Mechanisms of Chromosome Segregation [PDF]
Chromosome segregation—the partitioning of genetic material into two daughter cells—is one of the most crucial processes in cell division. In all Eukaryotes, chromosome segregation is driven by the spindle, a microtubule-based, self-organizing subcellular structure.

Mechanical allodynia (other pain) is a painful sensation caused by innocuous stimuli like light touch. Unlike inflammatory hyperalgesia that has a protective role, allodynia has no obvious biological utility. Allodynia is associated with nerve damage in conditions such as diabetes, and is likely to become an increasing clinical problem.

Politics as Mechanics: The Possibility of Explaining and Analyzing Social Issus on the Basis of Statics and Dynamics Criteria [PDF]
The study of social phenomena dominating the society, due to its unique conditions, needs improving and pondering. Although, in the first view, simulating the social phenomena with the mechanical phenomena may be considered illogical due to the ...

The mechanics of mechanical ventilation [PDF]
The Ventilator has represented an advance in the respiratory support for patients on anesthesia and intensive care. The ventilatory support increases the chance of survival in patients with respiratory failure, and / or major surgical procedures. This paper consists of a summary of advances in the ventilatory support, in describing the physiological ...

How bulk cytoplasm generates forces to separate post-anaphase microtubule (MT) asters in Xenopus laevis and other large eggs remains unclear. Previous models proposed that dynein-based, inward organelle transport generates length-dependent pulling forces

Classical mechanics as nonlinear quantum mechanics [PDF]
All measurable predictions of classical mechanics can be reproduced from a quantum-like interpretation of a nonlinear Schrodinger equation. The key observation leading to classical physics is the fact that a wave function that satisfies a linear equation

Age-Related Vascular Stiffening: Causes and Consequences
Arterial stiffening occurs with age and is closely associated with the progression of cardiovascular disease. Stiffening is most often studied at the level of the whole vessel because increased stiffness of the large arteries can impose increased strain ...

DNA under Force: Mechanics, Electrostatics, and Hydration
Quantifying the basic intra- and inter-molecular forces of DNA has helped us to better understand and further predict the behavior of DNA. Single molecule technique elucidates the mechanics of DNA under applied external forces, sometimes under extreme ...
