Morphodynamics of interface between dissimilar cell aggregations

open access: yesCommunications Physics
Tissue interfaces are essential for development and their disruption often leads to diseases such as tumor invasion. Here, we combine experiments, theoretical modeling, and numerical simulations to quantify the morphodynamics of interface in a biphasic ...

Use of magnetic particles to apply mechanical forces for bone tissue engineering purposes

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2005
It is possible to influence osteoblast activity by the application of mechanical forces. There is potential in using these forces for tissue engineering applications in that cell matrix production may be upregulated, resulting in a functional tissue engineered construct created in a shorter culture time.

Mechanics of Tunable Helices and Geometric Frustration in Biomimetic Seashells

open access: yes, 2013
Helical structures are ubiquitous in nature and engineering, ranging from DNA molecules to plant tendrils, from sea snail shells to nanoribbons. While the helical shapes in natural and engineered systems often exhibit nearly uniform radius and pitch ...

Review on the applied research of mechanical and acoustic metamaterials in ship engineering

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2023
The complexity of the marine environment and the strong nonlinear loads of weapon attacks make it difficult for ship structures made of conventional materials to meet the comprehensive design requirements for safety, stealth, lightweight, comfortability, etc., while the artificial designability and performance hypersynthesis of metamaterials have made ...
