Mechanical analysis of eyelid morphology
Acta Biomaterialia, 2013From a mechanical instability perspective a double eyelid is a double-folded thin film structure on a curved substrate, caused by compression as the film "slides" on the substrate. The underlying mechanics issues, in particular the requirements for forming a double folded structure, are studied using a modeling/simulation framework.

Abstract Mechanical analysis comprises two problems: the preparation of the suspension and the analysis thereof. Preliminary treatment aims at maximum dispersion. The state of coagulation of a soil suspension depends upon the nature of the adsorbed ions and on the interaction of these ions with those of the dispersing agent.

Local dynamic mechanical analysis
Micron, 2009While new materials with tailored properties appear every day, the need of appropriate characterization tools is still an important concern. Analyses of thin films on thick substrate are often highly influenced by the substrate properties. A dynamical nanoindentation system has been designed and built through the integration of a nanoindenter head ...

Analysis in Compressible Fluid Mechanics
ZAMM, 1998Summary: The paper is concerned with numerical simulation of compressible fluid flows. We discuss several mathematical models describing compressible flows, such as the problem for the full potential transonic equation including the entropy regularization, and the use of the Euler equations, but the main attention is paid to the simulation of real gas ...

Cinefluorographic Analysis of the Mechanism of Swallowing
Radiology, 1955In their work on the swallowing mechanism, the early investigators can at least be said not to have overlooked the anatomical probabilities. They found it logical to assume, for instance, that each of the mobile structures and muscles along the upper food channel must necessarily play an active part in the mechanism—“the uppermost first, and then ...

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF MECHANICAL SYSTEMS
The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics, 1987This paper presents the application of the Taylor expansion of a matrix function of many matrix arguments to the error analysis of systems described by matrix equations. Two cases of matrix function - random and deterministic - are considered. As an example the statistical analysis of a two-degree-of-freedom mechanical system is considered.

Analysis of the mechanism of lipoprotein(a) assembly
Clinical Genetics, 1997We have assessed the ability of a battery of purified recombinant apolipoprotein(a) (r‐apo(a)) derivatives to bind to immobilized low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) by ELISA. Removal of the apo(a) kringle IV type 8 and type 9 sequences dramatically reduced apo(a) binding to LDL. The binding of apo(a) to LDL was effectively inhibited by arginine, lysine, the

Tensor Analysis with Applications in Mechanics
2010The tensorial nature of a quantity permits us to formulate transformation rules for its components under a change of basis. These rules are relatively simple and easily grasped by any engineering student familiar with matrix operators in linear algebra. More complex problems arise when one considers the tensor fields that describe continuum bodies.

An Analysis of Exclusive Control Mechanisms
2008 IEEE International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing with Applications, 2008Spin-lock is commonly used for process serialization, where it works well for multi processor systems. Under some conditions however, it may cause an unexpected increase of CPU overhead. To address this problem a simulator has been developed which evaluates various algorithms of the lock/unlock process to determine a method to minimize their affect on ...
