This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

ADP‐ribosylation: An emerging regulator of the epigenome
ADP‐ribosylation has emerged as a dynamic epigenetic signaling mechanism that modifies histones and chromatin‐associated proteins. Through coordinated PARylation and MARylation, it integrates with other histone modifications to regulate chromatin structure, transcription factor activity, and gene expression, influencing genome function and disease ...

Unraveling the epigenetic code in cancer cell–tumor microenvironment crosstalk
Epigenetic regulation is a key driver of cancer development and progression. Diverse epigenetic alterations in cancer cells and components of the tumor microenvironment (TME) orchestrate their communication through multiple mechanisms. We discuss how the epigenetic code coordinates bidirectional cancer cell–TME crosstalk to promote cancer progression ...

A mechanistic model for butyrylcholinesterase
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology, 1979A plausible mechanism of action of horse serum butyrylcholinesterase is proposed. It includes substrate activation at the level of deacylation. The rate constant for the acylation of the enzyme appears to be much greater than the rate constant for the deacylation, at low substate concentrations.

Mechanistic Models for Myelosuppression
Investigational New Drugs, 2003As myelosuppression is the dose-limiting toxicity for most chemotherapeutic drugs, modelers attempt to find relationships between drug and toxicity to optimize treatment. Mechanistic models, i.e. models based on physiology and pharmacology, are preferable over empirical models, as prior information can be utilized and as they generally are more ...

A Mechanistic Model for Partial Preferences
Theoretical Population Biology, 2000Classic prey optimal foraging model assumes that individual predators are globally omniscient; that is, they have exact knowledge of prey population densities in the environment. This study examines a spatially explicit individual-based model of a one-predator two-prey system where individual predators are assumed to be omniscient only locally, i.e ...

A mechanistic model of a PDGFRα+ cell
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2016A novel platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha-positive cell (PDGFRα(+)) has recently been identified as part of the purinergic inhibitory neural control mechanism in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The mechanism through which PDGFRα(+) cells mediate GI muscle relaxation has been found to be associated with the purine receptors P2Y1 and apamin ...

A mechanistic model of plasma filtration
Medical Engineering & Physics, 1998A model describing the sieving and transmembrane pressure behavior of plasma filtration is developed and numerically simulated. The model assumes a mechanistic criteria for particle passage through a membrane with cylindrical pores. The initial pore diameter distribution and porosity are assumed to be known.
