Discrimination among Mechanistic Models
Technometrics, 1967This paper is concerned with research, the object of which is to discover the mechanism for a particular phenomenon leading to a specific mathematical model. Such investigations are distinguished from those in which the object is merely to estimate the output y of a process over a range of values of the input ∊1, ∊2, …, ∊ k .

Mechanistic Models for Myelosuppression
Investigational New Drugs, 2003As myelosuppression is the dose-limiting toxicity for most chemotherapeutic drugs, modelers attempt to find relationships between drug and toxicity to optimize treatment. Mechanistic models, i.e. models based on physiology and pharmacology, are preferable over empirical models, as prior information can be utilized and as they generally are more ...

Mechanistic biological modeling thrives
Science, 2016In their Perspective “Systems biology (un)certainties” (23 October 2015, p. [386][1]), P. D. W. Kirk et al. may give readers the impression that mathematical modeling and computer simulations of biological systems have fallen on hard times, owing to difficulties in measuring parameter values.

Mechanistic Modeling of Carbonated Waterflooding
SPE Improved Oil Recovery Conference, 2018AbstractCO2 enhanced oil recovery is usually affected by poor sweep efficiency due to unfavorable mobility contrast between the injected CO2 and oil. To alleviate this problem, CO2 is added to the injected brine and transported in the reservoir by flood water.

Choosing among correlative, mechanistic and hybrid models of species' niche and distribution.
Integrative Zoology, 2021Different models are available to estimate species' niche and distribution. Mechanistic and correlative models have different underlying conceptual bases, thus generating different estimates of a species' niche and geographic extent. Hybrid models, which

A mechanistic model for butyrylcholinesterase
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology, 1979A plausible mechanism of action of horse serum butyrylcholinesterase is proposed. It includes substrate activation at the level of deacylation. The rate constant for the acylation of the enzyme appears to be much greater than the rate constant for the deacylation, at low substate concentrations.
