Shear-activation of mechanochemical reactions through molecular deformation
AbstractMechanical stress can directly activate chemical reactions by reducing the reaction energy barrier. A possible mechanism of such mechanochemical activation is structural deformation of the reactant species. However, the effect of deformation on the reaction energetics is unclear, especially, for shear stress-driven reactions.

Modelling mechanochemical coupling in optogenetically activated cell layers
In adherent cells, actomyosin contractility is regulated mainly by the RhoA signaling pathway, which can be controlled by optogenetics. To model the mechanochemical coupling in such systems, we introduce a finite element framework based on the discontinuous Galerkin method, which allows us to treat cell doublets, chains of cells and monolayers within ...

A sustainable upcycling strategy transforms tungsten carbide–cobalt (WC–Co) soft scrap into high‐performance cathode materials. Recycled Co with trace nickel (Ni) is resynthesized into stabilized LiCoO2 with superior high‐voltage durability, while the recovered tungsten is further utilized as tungsten trioxide to enhance Ni‐rich cathode interfaces ...
