Understanding Covalent Mechanochemistry

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2009
AbstractThe time is ripe: A general theoretical framework based on force‐transformed potential energy surfaces rationalizes the intriguing results of recent experiments in the emerging field of covalent mechanochemistry.magnified ...

Mechanochemistry

Science, 1996
Some chemical reactions, such as the detonation of explosives, can be initiated by mechanical forces. In his Perspective, Gilman discusses the microscopic story behind such reactions. Unlike liquids or gases, solids can experience shear forces, and these in turn can cause bending of atomic bonds in molecules.

Mechanochemistry for Synthesis

Angewandte Chemie, 2019
AbstractMechanochemical solvent‐free reactions by milling, grinding or other types of mechanical action have emerged as a viable alternative to solution chemistry. Mechanochemistry offers not only a possibility to eliminate the need for bulk solvent use, and reduce the generation of waste, but it also unlocks the door to a different reaction ...

The mechanochemistry of cytogels

Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 1984
We present a mechanochemical model for force generation by actomyosin cytogel. The model is built around the observation that calcium ions both solate actomyosin gels and stimulate active contraction of the gel. The model cytogel can mimic a variety of morphogenetic pattern-producing phenomena.

Solvent-assisted mechanochemistry

Chem. Commun., 2013
The literature on solvent-assisted mechanochemistry is reviewed with a view to linking observations concerning the applicability of the technique to theories of its mechanism, and summarizing the advantages and limitations of the technique when applied to a variety of different reaction types.

The Mechanochemistry of Carboranes

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2022
AbstractWe developed o‐carborane as a new mechanophore by showing that the o‐carborane cluster is the preferred scission site in chain‐centered polymers through ultrasonication mechanochemistry. Mechanistic studies are consistent with a predominately homolytic mechanism of chain scission.

Mechanochemistry of Gaseous Reactants

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2019
AbstractIn recent years, the application of mechanical energy to chemical systems has repeatedly proven beneficial to facilitate chemical transformations in various areas in chemistry. Today, a systematic body of evidence indicates that mechanochemistry holds great promise to become a game‐changer in chemical synthesis.
