The mechanochemistry of cytogels

Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 1984
We present a mechanochemical model for force generation by actomyosin cytogel. The model is built around the observation that calcium ions both solate actomyosin gels and stimulate active contraction of the gel. The model cytogel can mimic a variety of morphogenetic pattern-producing phenomena.

Mechanochemistry

2022
Although the history of mechanochemistry goes back centuries, with the rapid growth of articles about it, it is becoming clear that this once arcane discipline is becoming increasingly useful.

Weak Covalent Bonds and Mechanochemistry for Synergistic Self-Strengthening of Elastomers.

Journal of the American Chemical Society
The macroscopic properties of elastomers are intimately linked to their molecular reactivity and mechanisms. Here, we propose a new strategy for designing strengthening materials based on the synergy of weak covalent bonds and mechanochemistry.

Harnessing Mechanochemistry for Direct Synthesis of Imine-Based Metal-Organic Frameworks.

Journal of the American Chemical Society
The growth of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is most frequently accessed by the direct assembly of metal cations and multitopic ready-to-connect ligands under solvothermal conditions.

Mechanochemistry of Strecker degradation: Interaction of glyoxal with amino acids.

Food Chemistry, 2023
Mechanochemistry is rapidly evolving into a versatile and green method for chemical synthesis. Due to its unique reaction conditions, ball milling of sugars and amino acids mainly leads to the formation of Amadori products with minimum degradation.

Meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals with Mechanochemistry

Angewandte Chemie
Chemistry traditionally relies on reactions in solution, but this method is increasingly problematic due to the scale of chemical processes and their economic and environmental impact.

Polymer Mechanochemistry: Where Is It Going?

Journal of the American Chemical Society
Mechanical force can induce and perturb chemical reactivity. By embedding force-responsive molecules, known as mechanophores, within polymer chains, forces can be precisely applied at specific locations within the molecules.

Mechanochemistry: The Effect of Dynamics

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2014
Dynamical effects on the mechanochemistry of linear alkane chains, mimicking polyethylene, are studied by means of molecular dynamics simulations. Butane and octane are studied using density-functional theory (DFT), whereas higher homologues are studied using a simple one-dimensional model in which the molecules are represented by a linear chain of ...
