AbstractMechanochromic polymers can be used as stress‐ and damage‐detecting sensors in polymeric materials, given that mechanical stimuli can be visualized by color changes. Although many types of mechanochromic polymers have been reported so far, there are only few examples on their further functionalization based on multiple color changes (multicolor

Suppressing the Mechanochromism of Flexible Photonic Crystals
We present flexible photonic crystal slabs (PCS) obtained by sputtering of a dielectric 100 nm Nb2O5 high refractive index layer onto a flexible nanostructured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate with 370 nm grating period. The PCS exhibit a guided mode resonance at around 650 nm.

Multichromic Behavior of Liquid Crystalline Composite Polymeric Films
In this study, we describe the synthesis of a cholesterol-linked cyanostilobazole salt dye and the tuning of its luminescence by physical stimuli such as electricity and grinding. The dyes exhibited liquid-crystalline properties at temperatures above 170

Small Molecular Dibenzochalcogenophenes as Potent Organic Emitters. [PDF]
This review compiles recent achievements and applications of purely organic small luminescent DBC. We present frequently employed functionalities and design strategies, accomplishing room temperature phosphorescence (RTP). In addition, we discuss the challenges for luminescent selenium and tellurium derivatives as well as the influence of commercial ...

3D-Printed Mechanochromic Materials
We describe the preparation and characterization of photo- and mechanochromic 3D-printed structures using a commercial fused filament fabrication printer. Three spiropyran-containing poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) polymers were each filamentized and used to print single- and multicomponent tensile testing specimens that would be difficult, if not ...
