Scanning Electron Microscopy of the Antennal Sensilla and Their Secretion Analysis in Adults of Aromia bungii (Faldermann, 1835) (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae)

open access: yesInsects, 2019
Background: It has been proved that chemical signals play an important role in mating location and reproductive behavior in cerambycids; moreover, they rely on contact chemoreception for mate recognition.

Neuromorphic Near‐Sensor and In‐Sensor Computing Enabled by Next‐Generation Material‐Based Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This Review presents a structural framework that classifies neuromorphic sensing into near‐sensor and in‐sensor architectures, clarifying physical coupling between sensing and computation. The framework connects neural and synaptic device functions with recent advances in optical, mechanical, and chemical sensing, compares energy consumption and ...

The Basis of Rapid Adaptation in Mechanoreceptors

open access: yes, 1994
Mechanoreceptors often adapt rapidly and completely to a sustained mechanical stimulus. This adaptation is usually assumed to be caused by mechanical structures surrounding sensory endings, but old and new evidence from several preparations indicates ...

Synergistic Integration of Artificial Merkel Disc and Meissner Corpuscle via Dermal Papillary Structures for Mechanically Filtered Multimodal Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal tactile sensor module that mimics the spatial arrangement and function of Merkel discs and Meissner corpuscles within the human papillary structure operates in a self‐powered manner, responding to both dynamic and static stimuli, achieving tactile perception more similar to human skin.

Mechanoreceptors Found in a Posterior Cruciate Ligament From a Well-Functioning Total Knee Arthroplasty Retrieval

open access: yes, 2011
Histologic analysis of the posterior cruciate ligament has been reported in the normal and osteoarthritic knee but not after cruciate-retaining (CR) total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

A Versatile‐Designable Framework for Active and Programmable Shape‐Morphing Soft Matter Systems: From Inverse Design to Closed‐Loop Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A versatile framework integrates addressable electrothermal actuation and strain‐constraint mechanisms to construct programmable shape‐morphing soft matter systems. By combining an analytical inverse design strategy for high‐fidelity 3D surface reconstruction with deep learning‐based closed‐loop control, this approach enables zero‐energy shape locking,

Molecular and Cellular Hallmarks of Age‐Related Vestibular Hair Cell Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study utilizes single‐cell RNA‐seq transcriptomes, advanced imaging, and electrophysiology to examine universal and cell‐type‐specific aging signatures of vestibular hair cells. The study shows that impaired hair bundle function is a key driver of age‐related vestibular dysfunction.

Mechanoreceptors in rat glabrous skin: redevelopment of function after nerve crush

open access: yes, 1986
In the glabrous skin of the rat's hindfoot the same triple set of low-threshold mechanoreceptors is present as has been found in other mammals: slowly adapting (SA), rapidly adapting (RA), and very rapidly adapting Pacinian corpuscle-like (PC) receptors.

Bio‐Inspired Mechanical Amplification Block on Implantable Tactile Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
. ABSTRACT Implantable strain sensors offer opportunities for continuous biomechanical monitoring, but their performance deteriorates severely once embedded in soft tissue due to mechanical shielding that suppresses strain transmission to the sensing layer.

Mechanosensory entities and functionality of endothelial cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
The endothelial cells of the blood circulation are exposed to hemodynamic forces, such as cyclic strain, hydrostatic forces, and shear stress caused by the blood fluid’s frictional force.
