Stewart Brand, of Whole Earth Catalog fame, is a technology enthusiast. In 1986, he spent three months in the fantasyland of his choice, MIT's Media Laboratory (formerly the Architecture Machine Group). In his latest book, The Media Lab: Inventing the Future at MIT (Viking/ Penguin, New York, 1988, 285 pp., $10, ISBN 0-14-009701-5), he tells the world ...

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Linear Precoding for Multiuser Visible-Light Communication With Field-of-View Diversity
The multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) indoor visible-light communication (VLC) system with multiple users, where several light-emitting diodes (LEDs) send messages to several photodiodes (PD), is studied. To enhance the diversity, each user is

Aesthetic chills cause an emotional drift in valence and arousal
Aesthetic chills are an embodied peak emotional experience induced by stimuli such as music, films, and speeches and characterized by dopaminergic release.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Human detection of political speech deepfakes across transcripts, audio, and video
Recent advances in technology for hyper-realistic visual and audio effects provoke the concern that deepfake videos of political speeches will soon be indistinguishable from authentic video.

Motor imagery-based brain-computer interfaces (MI-BCI) have been proposed as a means for stroke rehabilitation, which combined with virtual reality allows for introducing game-based interactions into rehabilitation. However, the control of the MI-BCI may

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
