Adaptive Structuration Theory and Media Richness Theory in GDSS Research: A Critical Review
2015 48th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2015This paper presents a synthesis of the group support systems literature (GSS) with a focus on adaptive structuration theory (AST) and media richness theory (MRT). We analyze 23 papers that use either of these theories in constructing or empirically testing hypotheses and fit these works to a framework for conceptualizing group decision support systems ...

A narrative review of the literature on the importance of affective factors in the information retrieval (IR) behaviours of entrepreneurs is presented in this paper. Through the lens of Media Richness Theory, we examine the importance of the richness of information and medium to the success of the IR process.

Testing media richness theory to explain consumers' intentions of buying online
Proceedings of the 10th international conference on Electronic commerce, 2008The objective of this study is to empirically test a conceptual framework designed to validate media richness theory in explaining consumers' intentions of buying online. An online survey was carried out and data from 749 consumers was collected and analyzed to test the proposed hypotheses.

Using RSS to support ubiquitous learning based on media richness theory
2009 IEEE International Conference on Virtual Environments, Human-Computer Interfaces and Measurements Systems, 2009The portable and immediate communication properties of mobile devices influence the learning processes in interacting with peers, accessing resources and transferring data. How to use communication technologies to improve mobile learning is an important topic in electronic education.

An Examination of the Effects of Self-Regulatory Focus on the Perception of the Media Richness: The Case of E-Mail [PDF]
Communication is a key element in organizations’ business success. The media richness theory and the channel expansion theory are two of the most influential theories regarding the selection and use of communication media in organizations; however ...

Media richness theory has become one of the most cited, yet controversial, theories of media choices in organizations. In this paper, we refine and extend media richness theory by more precisely characterizing its key construct, the concept of message equivocality. We identify two sources of message equivocality, personal nature and ambiguity.

Applying Media Richness Theory to Essay Writing Instruction - A Case of an Elementary School
2014 Tenth International Conference on Intelligent Information Hiding and Multimedia Signal Processing, 2014Essay standards are generally determined by teachers' subjective opinions. The tacit knowledge requires choosing correct type of communication media and picking a suitable knowledge transfer mechanism. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to reduce the subjectively in feedback to student essays. The quasi-experimental method is used.

Voice mail and media richness theory-a longitudinal study
IPCC 94 Proceedings. Scaling New Heights in Technical Communication, 2002Work by R.L. Daft, R.H. Lengel and L. Trevino (1987) in media richness theory (MRT) is being used as a major reference in the study of MRT and the place of the new media within the dimension of MRT. There is a gap in the work of Daft and Lengel: lack of analysis of the scale of equivocality.
