The mediatization of second-order elections and party launches: UK television news reporting of the 2014 European Union campaign [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Using the United Kingdom as a case study to explore the degree to which news about a second-order election is mediatized, this comparative content analysis examines television news coverage of the 2014 European Union elections.

Discovering and interpreting audio media generation units: A typological-praxeological approach to the mediatization of everyday music listening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
To deal with methodological challenges, which confront current mediatization research due to the ongoing digitalization of media, we suggest a mixed methods approach that is an adopted form of media repertoire analysis based on the generation unit ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Adopting or resisting 24-hour news logic on evening bulletins? the mediatization of UK television news 1991-2012 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This study carries out a longitudinal content analysis of United Kingdom (UK) fixed time evening news bulletins between 1991 and 2012 (N = 2040) in order to systematically examine whether they have adapted their format for the rolling news age with more ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Media consumption between dynamics and persistence: The meaning of persistent media practices in a mediatized everyday life

open access: yesStudies in Communication Sciences, 2023
Qualitative reception studies have shown that new media neither radically change people’s media repertoires, nor do they replace the old. Established media practices remain relevant, and users actively persist on old media (technologies). To show why and

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
