Polyploidization and Gene Expression in Medicago sativa

2010
Polyploidization is a common event in plant evolution and can influence economically important traits. Modifications of gene expression and/or DNA sequence are known to occur as a consequence of polyploidization. To gain insight into the effects of sexual polyploidization on gene expression in alfalfa, we have used two diploid (2x=16) plants of the ...

Somatic Hybrization of Medicago Sativa and Medicago Falcata

1983
The aim of our work was to study somatic hybridization in the genus Medicago. Indeed we would like to increase variability in cultivated lucerne, M. sativa, by introducing characters of wild species. Since interspecific hybridizations are very difficult because of differences in ploidy levels we think that somatic hybridization is a way to overpass ...

Canavanine in alfalfa (Medicago sativa)

Experientia, 1985
Canavanine was extracted and characterized from various cultivars of alfalfa seed. Values obtained range from 8 g/kg for the Buffalo variety to 14–20 g/kg for the highly weevil resistant variety, Weevl-Chek.

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.).

Methods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.), 2006
A protocol for rapid, highly efficient transformation of alfalfa is described. Leaf explants from growth chamber-grown plants of a highly regenerable genotype are surface-sterilized, the margins are removed, and explants are inoculated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain LBA4404 carrying the T-DNA vector of interest.
