Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

An Integrated Intuitionistic Fuzzy Similarity Measures for Medical Problems [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems, 2014
The purpose of this paper is to develop an integrated similarity measures model based on intuitionistic fuzzy sets. This integrated model has improved two similarity measures methods: (1) Ye (, 53, 91-97 (2011)) presented a novel cosine similarity ...

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

Unimodal-Uniform Constrained Wasserstein Training for Medical Diagnosis [PDF]

open access: yes2019 IEEE/CVF International Conference on Computer Vision Workshop (ICCVW), 2019
The labels in medical diagnosis task are usually discrete and successively distributed. For example, the Diabetic Retinopathy Diagnosis (DR) involves five health risk levels: no DR (0), mild DR (1), moderate DR (2), severe DR (3) and proliferative DR (4).

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

Medical diagnosis system and method with multispectral imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
A skin diagnosis system includes a scanning and optical arrangement whereby light reflected from each incremental area (pixel) of the skin is directed simultaneously to three separate light filters, e.g., IR, red, and green.

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

A Novel Interval Three-Way Concept Lattice Model with Its Application in Medical Diagnosis

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
Medical diagnosis has been recognized as one of the key processes in clinical medicine, which determines diseases from some given symptoms. Nonetheless, previous works about medical diagnosis have some drawbacks because medical data are usually fuzzy ...

KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...
