Counting faces of randomly-projected polytopes when the projection radically lowers dimension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper develops asymptotic methods to count faces of random high-dimensional polytopes. Beyond its intrinsic interest, our conclusions have surprising implications - in statistics, probability, information theory, and signal processing - with ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Analisis Self Reported Asuhan Persalinan Oleh Lulusan DIII Kebidanan Dan Medical Error an Analysis of Self Reported of Delivery Care by DIII Midwifery Graduates and Medical Error [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Increased coverage of deliveries by health personnel in Indonesia (82.3%) does not synergize with decreased MMR (228/100.000 live births). The low quality of care at the primary level becomes the main causal factor for the slow achievement of

Evidence-based decision support for pediatric rheumatology reduces diagnostic errors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: The number of trained specialists world-wide is insufficient to serve all children with pediatric rheumatologic disorders, even in the countries with robust medical resources. We evaluated the potential of diagnostic decision support software

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Medical errors in primary care clinics – a cross sectional study

open access: yesBMC Family Practice, 2012
Background Patient safety is vital in patient care. There is a lack of studies on medical errors in primary care settings. The aim of the study is to determine the extent of diagnostic inaccuracies and management errors in public funded primary care ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Fault Tolerant Air Bubble Sensor using Triple Modular Redundancy Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Detection of air bubbles in the blood is important for various medical treatments that use Extracorporeal Blood Circuits (ECBC), such as hemodialysis, hemofiltration and cardio-pulmonary bypass. Therefore a reliable air bubble detector is needed. In this
