Guest Editorial Distributed Signal Processing for Security and Privacy in Networked Cyber-Physical Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The papers in this special section address distributed signal processing applications that support security and privacy in networked cyber-physical systems. Networked cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are engineering systems with integrated computational and

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Intelligent signal processing routine for instantaneous heart rate detection using a Six-Port microwave interferometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Instantaneous heart rate detection is one of the key parameters in medical vital parameter monitoring. In medical centers e.g., real time monitoring of the vital signs of a patient under surveillance is necessary.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Theory and realization of novel algorithms for random sampling in digital signal processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Random sampling is a technique which overcomes the alias problem in regular sampling. The randomization, however, destroys the symmetry property of the transform kernel of the discrete Fourier transform.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Forearm Bio-Medical Signal Processing

open access: yesInternational Journal on Engineering Technology
This research utilizes low-dimensional surface EMG and EEG data, obtained from the human arm using ECG electrodes, to analyze forearm muscle signals through a novel approach. Both EMG and EEG signals are employed side by side: EEG captures brain activity, particularly in the beta (13-30 Hz) and alpha (8-12 Hz) frequency ranges, while EMG focuses on ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
