Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Medication reconciliation in a hospital environment: Avoided discrepancies and cost savings - A single arm intervention study: Benefits of medication reconciliation in a hospital [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Medication reconciliation has proven to be essential for patient safety. However, studies on its economic viability are still scarce. Therefore, the aim of this study was to understand the avoided cost of medication discrepancies identified through the ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Medication Reconciliation as a Medication Safety Initiative [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Medication errors and their adverse outcomes are the most common cause of patient injuries in hospitals. Medication reconciliation is the safety strategy usually called for, to prevent medication errors that occur at care transitions.

Effect of therapeutic interchange on medication reconciliation during hospitalization and upon discharge in a geriatric population. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Therapeutic interchange of a same class medication for an outpatient medication is a widespread practice during hospitalization in response to limited hospital formularies. However, therapeutic interchange may increase risk of medication errors.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified
