A Non‐Canonical Role of SMAD4 in Regulating 3D Genome Architecture to Inhibit Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SMAD4 is identified as a guardian of 3D genome architecture in lung squamous cell carcinoma. Loss of SMAD4 unleashes EP300 at chromatin loop anchors, strengthening enhancer–promoter looping and H3K27ac at the SOX2 locus to drive aberrant SOX2 activation and tumor cell proliferation.

Stem Cell Differentiation Disperses Transcriptional Clusters via a Conserved Surface‐Condensate Trajectory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation follows a conserved surface condensate trajectory: H3K27ac super enhancers nucleate large RNA polymerase II clusters that grow and unfold before transcriptional activity disperses them. This work reveals how biophysical forces at enhancer surfaces dynamically build and dismantle stem cell transcription hubs, reshaping cell ...

Risk of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Following Hospital‐Treated Infections and Modulatory Role of Host Genetics to Support a Multi‐Hit Pathogenesis Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hospital‐treated infections are linked to increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease in a large prospective cohort. This risk differs by infection burden, time since infection, and host immune‐genetic susceptibility. The findings support a multi‐hit pathogenesis model in which severe infection and inherited susceptibility jointly shape inflammatory ...

Magnetoelectric Nanoparticles Enable Modulation of Cortical Networks by Low‐Intensity Static Magnetic Fields In Vitro

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neuromodulation strategies are increasingly needed to stimulate, restore, or replace altered neuronal activity in disease. Cobalt ferrite‐barium titanate (CFO–BTO) magnetoelectric nanoparticles convert low‐intensity static magnetic fields into local electrical modulation of cortical networks.

Essential, Yet Precarious, Mistreated, Sick and Medicalized: A Sequential Explanatory Mixed‐Methods Study on Homecare Aides in Spain

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Homecare aides (HCAs) are professional non‐family caregivers, who support dependent individuals to live at home with dignity; yet in Spain they remain understudied and vulnerable, often facing precarious working conditions. We aimed to characterize HCAs’ employment, living conditions, health, and exposure to workplace violence and ...

Characterization and Analysis of PHEX Variants in Patients With Hypophosphatemia in Argentina

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Confirming the underlying molecular etiology of hereditary hypophosphatemia (HH) to provide recurrence risk counseling is highly important. Our aims were to describe the detected variants and their distribution across Argentina and to contrast them with published data.

Unfused transverse foramen of the atlas vertebra in the Neandertal lineage fossils

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract In anatomically modern humans, the atlas can display an unfused transverse foramen (UTF) but currently the presence of UTF in the Neandertal lineage is uncertain due to a scarcity of prevalence studies and no exhaustive record of its presence throughout the entire hominin fossil record.

Neuroanatomical diversity in Teleocichla with new volumetric and histological insights into the encephalon of Teleocichla monogramma Kullander 1988

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Teleocichla comprises small cichlids that inhabit the rapid streams of Amazonian rivers; however, there has been limited research on their encephalon morphology. This study examined the neuroanatomy of four species, focusing on volumetric measurements of their encephalon subregions, and providing a histological description of the encephalon of
