Tn‐seq of Thermus thermophilus Genome Reveals Unexpected Tolerance to Insertions in Bacterial Common Essential Genes

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2026.
Tn‐seq analysis of Thermus thermophilus genome reveals insertions in almost all genes, this is, there is no clear discrimination of essential genes. A similar result has not been reported in other Tn‐seq analysis of bacterial genomes so far. The polyploidy of the Thermus genome could explain the apparent non‐essentiality of key genes.

A panel of 32 AIMs suitable for population stratification correction and global ancestry estimation in Mexican mestizos

open access: yesBMC Genetics, 2019
Background Association studies are useful to unravel the genetic basis of common human diseases. However, the presence of undetected population structure can lead to both false positive results and failures to detect genuine associations.

Exclusion of CLIC5 as a Candidate Gene and Identification of NEFM as a Possible Novel Gene Correlated With Autosomal Recessive Pure Cerebellar Ataxia in a Highly Consanguineous Family

open access: yesMolecular Genetics &Genomic Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
Whole‐exome sequencing candidate CLIC5 and NEFM for cerebellar ataxia (CA) onset. In vivo studies exclude CLIC5, while in silico analysis and literature review support NEFM as a candidate gene for CA. These findings could be useful for advancing the genetic diagnosis of hereditary pure CA. Created in https://BioRender.com.

Multi‐Omic Insights Into Mediterranean Diet‐Associated Microbiota

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 7, 15 April 2026.
Mediterranean diet (MD) influences the composition of the gut mycobiome. Key foods of MD are related to bacterial and fungal composition. Combining metagenomics and metatranscriptomics tracks the gene expression profiles of gut microbiota. Metatranscriptomics identifies the transcriptionally active members of the microbiota that overexpressed genes ...

Secrets within stems: The cryptic Apodanthes caseariae (Apodanthaceae), a rare neotropical holoendoparasite

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 385-400, March 2026.
Holoendoparasites are extremely rare plants that live entirely hidden inside their hosts, with only flowers and fruits visible. We studied Apodanthes caseariae, found in central and South America, parasitizing Casearia sylvestris. Little is known about its life cycle.

Bioinformática e Biomedicina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A sequenciação do genoma humano, anunciada ao mundo com os primeiros resultados em 2001 e terminada em 2003 é um marco na história da humanidade. Inicialmente, o foco da investigação genómica centrava-se nas espécies, e a comparação de genomas e de genes
