Tolerance of organisms composing an Arctic kelp community to ocean warming and marine heatwaves

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 8, Page 1938-1954, August 2025.
These results suggest that Arctic kelp communities are fairly tolerant to warming and short‐term marine heatwaves, despite the few minor effects on photosynthesis by some of the kelp species. We note that the future response of kelp communities must account for the potential indirect effects of climate change, such as predation and competition, along ...

Abundance, distribution and size structure of Diadema antillarum (Echinodermata: Diadematidae) in South Eastern Cuban coral reefs

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2010
The 1983-1984 mass mortality event of Diadema antillarum affected more than 93% of the total Caribbean population. Although there are no records about the status of Diadema populations before and after die-off on Cuban reefs, anecdotal information ...

Sources of uncertainty in DNA metabarcoding of whole communities: Implications for its use in biomonitoring

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, Page 1658-1673, August 2025.
Abstract Advancements have been made in the use of DNA‐based methods for the detection of single species. However, the routine application of DNA‐based methods to monitor whole communities using a metabarcoding approach and derive ecosystem status continues to be limited.

So Young, So Rich: Habitat Shifts Combined With Trait Evolution Promoted Species Radiation in Senecio in the Andes

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim The outstanding Andean biodiversity has been linked to the occurrence of evolutionary radiations that are common among high‐elevation plant lineages. One of the most iconic examples is found in the species‐rich genus Senecio, with an impressive variation in growth forms and habitat preference.
