A medium manganese steel designed for water quenching and partitioning

Materials Science and Technology, 2018
An aluminium-containing medium manganese steel has been designed to undergo intercritical annealing followed by quenching in water and subsequent partitioning. Water quenching, replacing the quenching temperature (QT) between 150 and 300°C in conventional quenching and partitioning steels, is therefore adopted in QP alloys, in order to guarantee the ...

Stacking Fault Energy of Austenite Phase in Medium Manganese Steel

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2019
The stacking fault energy (SFE) of the austenite phase in a medium manganese steel (Fe-4.75Mn-0.18C-0.8Si-0.4Al wt pct) has been determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) using the modified Reed–Schramm formalism. SFE determination involved XRD line broadening analysis of mean square strain due to dislocations and calculation of stacking fault probability (

Texture Evolutions in Annealing Process for Medium Manganese Steel Sheets

2016
High-strength medium-manganese steel sheets recrystallized in the alpha phase after cold-rolling have a good press formability due to the //ND texture. If the A3 temperature and the alpha-to-gamma transformation temperature are decreased, the addition of manganese affects the recrystallization and the formability.

Heat treatment of hot-worked P/M medium-manganese steels

Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 1987
The authors explore the possibility of improving the mechanical properties of hot-worked manganese steels alloyed with nominal amounts of molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, and silicon by quenching performed directly after high-temperature thermomechanical processing and by additional heat treatment.

Kinetics of medium-manganese steel prepared by solid-state decarburisation

Ironmaking & Steelmaking: Processes, Products and Applications
This paper analyses solid-state decarburisation kinetics with the aim to clarify the transition rule of restrictive links in the process of decarburisation, providing a theoretical basis for regulating the solid-state-decarburisation rate. Experimental calculation of the Fe–Mn–C ternary alloy phase diagram using FactSage thermodynamic software, with ...

Welding Processing of Medium-Manganese Austenitic Steels for Cryogenic Applications

HTM Journal of Heat Treatment and Materials
Abstract For several years, the significance of gaseous energy sources (e. g. liquified natural gas and hydrogen) has been increasing worldwide due to environmental and climate policy requirements. Storage and transportation of the liquids occur under cryogenic conditions.
