Larval Physiological Responses to Temperature Across the European Distribution Range of a Global Invader at Home: The Shore Crab Carcinus maenas. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
In larvae of the European shore crab Carcinus maenas, the temperature of highest survival decreased towards higher latitudes among populations distributed along the North European coast. C. maenas is native to Europe, but it is considered a global invader in coastal zones.

Effect of different salinity levels on megalopa Scylla tranquebarica (Fabricius, 1798) rearing to the crablet production [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences, 2023
The salinity level for the culture of megalopae affects crablet production. The research aimed to determine the optimum salinity level for the megalopa of S. tranquebarica rearing.

Mechanisms regulating estuarine ingress of blue crab Callinectes sapidus megalopae [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Ecology Progress Series, 2009
Mechanisms of shoreward transport and estuarine ingress in blue crab Callinectes sapidus megalopae have been difficult to infer from time series of nightly settlement on passive hog's hair collectors. We attempted to investigate the hypothesis that separating mechanisms of shoreward transport and estuarine ingress might enable identification of ...

Effects of four diets on the metabolism of megalopa metamorphosis of the mud crab, Scylla paramamosain

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
Dietary intake is an essential source of energy and nutrients, and plays an irreplaceable role in the breeding of S. paramamosain seedlings. In this study, live Artemia nauplii (LA), compound feeds (CF), frozen copepods (FC) and frozen adult Artemia (FA)

Mineral nutrition in penaeid shrimp

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 15, Issue 4, Page 1355-1373, September 2023., 2023
Abstract This review summarises the current knowledge of mineral nutrition for penaeid shrimp. It investigates how the aquatic environment and the lifecycle of shrimp affect requirements and the role that minerals play in shrimp health. Methods of supplying minerals via either water or to feed, and novel ways of supplementing minerals within feed, are ...

Carry‐over effects and fitness trade‐offs in marine life histories: The costs of complexity for adaptation

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 474-485, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Most marine organisms have complex life histories, where the individual stages of a life cycle are often morphologically and ecologically distinct. Nevertheless, life‐history stages share a single genome and are linked phenotypically (by “carry‐over effects”).

Asentamiento diario de megalopas de jaibas del género Cancer en un estuario micromareal Daily settlement of Cancer crab megalopae in a microtidal estuary

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2012

Key For The Identification Of Mediterranean Brachyuran Megalopae

open access: yesMediterranean Marine Science, 2004
Based on larval literature, an identification key has been constructed for the megalopae of 55 species of Mediterranean Brachyura. This key is based mainly on external morphological characteristics visible, by using a microscope, limiting the necessity for dissection of specimens.

Applicability of the source–sink population concept to marine intertidal macro‐invertebrates with planktonic larval stages

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 38, Issue 1, Page 4-41, January 2023., 2023
It is generally believed that local populations of marine benthic macro‐invertebrates with planktonic larvae are in source–sink relationships via larval dispersal in a given regional population. Numerical simulations abound for connectivity through larvae among local/regional populations, but few empirical studies have taken local population dynamics ...
