The role of strain heating in the evolution of megathrusts
Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1986On the basis of elementary energy considerations and the nonlinear temperature dependence of experimental flow laws, a model is developed for the interplay of thermal and mechanical processes along megathrust systems. The model is based on the observation that thrust systems involving large portions of the lithosphere have a two‐part history.

2017The Great East Japan Earthquake, which struck on March 11, 2011, had a massive economic impact, primarily on the affected areas in Japan. The Indian Ocean Tsunami hit Aceh and Nias, Indonesia, on December 26, 2004 and destroyed life and infrastructure within 10 km of the coastline in north and western Aceh.
