Meiotic behavior and fertility of Capsicum interspecific hybrids [PDF]

open access: yesHorticultura Brasileira, 2020
ABSTRACT This study was performed to evaluate the meiotic behavior and fertility of four hybrids obtained from the crossing of Capsicum baccatum and its botanical forms with Capsicum chinense and Capsicum frutescens. We aimed to identify the causes of the low fertility in interspecific hybrids involving species from different gene pools of Capsicum ...

Ecological Adaptation Mechanisms Underlying Successful Plant Reproduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
During floral induction, various environmental and endogenous signals converge to regulate the florigen protein, which is transported from leaves to the SAM to initiate flowering. Within the SAM, a complex network of receptor kinases and small peptides orchestrates floral development with high spatiotemporal precision.

Analysis of self-fertilization and meiotic behavior of eleven Brazilian triticale cultivars at two sowing dates

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2011
Eleven Brazilian hexaploid triticale cultivars (2n = 6x = 42), from three breeding programs, were evaluated for their ability of self-fertilization in 2006 and for meiotic behavior, meiotic index and pollen viability at two sowing dates in 2007.

Meiotic analysis of the germoplasm of three medicinal species from Asteraceae family Análise meiótica do germoplasma de três espécies medicinais da família Asteraceae

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2008
Cytogenetic characterization was carried out on 12 accessions from Aster squamatus (Spreng.) Hieron., Pterocaulon polystachyum DC, and Solidago microglossa DC by studying their meiotic behavior and pollen viability.

Microtubule-severing enzymes: From cellular functions to molecular mechanism. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Microtubule-severing enzymes generate internal breaks in microtubules. They are conserved in eukaryotes from ciliates to mammals, and their function is important in diverse cellular processes ranging from cilia biogenesis to cell division, phototropism ...

Meiotic chromosome behavior of Haworthia limifolia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Bioassays, 2016
Haworthia limifolia is a xerophytic plant belonging to the family Liliaceae and is indigenous to Africa. It is use extensively for its medicinal properties like antibacterial, antifungal properties and used for the treatment of sores, superficial burns, as a blood purifier and to promote pregnancy in women and cattles.

Comparative Oligo‐FISH Mapping Illuminates Chromosomal Evolution Among Rutaceae Species Diverged Over 50 Million Years

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Oligonucleotide‐based fluorescence in situ hybridization probes were developed in the model citrus species Citrus maxima. These probes were applied to comparative karyotyping across 14 species in the Rutaceae family. This analysis revealed chromosomal evolution in lineages that diverged from Citrus nearly 52 million years ago.

Revisiting Meiosis in Sugarcane: Chromosomal Irregularities and the Prevalence of Bivalent Configurations

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2018
Traditional sugarcane cultivars (Saccharum officinarum) proved highly susceptible to diseases, and this led breeders to progress to interspecific crosses resulting in disease resistance. A backcrossing program to S. officinarum was then required to boost

Activation of ADF/cofilin by phosphorylation-regulated Slingshot phosphatase is required for the meiotic spindle assembly in Xenopus laevis oocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We identify Xenopus ADF/cofilin (XAC) and its activator, Slingshot phosphatase (XSSH), as key regulators of actin dynamics essential for spindle microtubule assembly during Xenopus oocyte maturation.

Aberrant meiotic behavior in Agave tequilana Weber var. azul [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2002
Agave tequilana Weber var. azul, is the only one variety permitted by federal law in México to be used for tequila production which is the most popular contemporary alcoholic beverage made from agave and recognized worldwide. Despite the economic, genetic, and ornamental value of the plant, it has not been subjected to detailed cytogenetic research ...
