Relative Exchangeable and Exchangeable Copper: Emerging New Biomarkers for Diagnosis and Therapy Monitoring in Wilson's Disease

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Wilson's disease (WD) is a genetic disorder of copper metabolism in which early diagnosis remains challenging, particularly in acute liver failure (ALF). Relative exchangeable copper (REC) and exchangeable copper (CuEXC) are emerging biomarkers for diagnosis and monitoring, but data from larger cohorts are limited.

Standardization of the Cirrhosis Admission Process and Its Impact on Inpatient Management and Patient Outcomes

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction An increase in cirrhosis‐related hospitalizations has highlighted opportunities for improved patient care and standardization of practice. We created a cirrhosis admission order set with the goal of promoting guideline‐directed care and improving patient outcomes.

“A Whale of a Chance”: Thomas E. Dewey, the U.S. South, and the Election of 1948

open access: yesPresidential Studies Quarterly, Volume 56, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This article examines the Republican Party's campaign in the South in 1948. It argues that many national and state Republicans believed that there was a real opportunity for the party's presidential candidate, Thomas E. Dewey, to win Border South states.

Flow Chemistry Meets Green Solvents: Telescoped Synthesis of Triazolyl Phosphoramidates and Phosphinamides in γ‐Valerolactone

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 9, 14 May 2026.
A telescoped three‐step continuous flow process enables the synthesis of organophosphorus 1,2,3‐triazoles in the biomass‐derived solvent γ‐valerolactone (GVL). The sequence integrates N‐phosphorylation, azidation, and Cu(I)‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC), followed by in‐line copper removal, giving diverse triazoles in good to high overall

Boron Neutron Capture Therapy at a Crossroads: Translational Gap and Emerging Delivery Agents

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 17, 5 May 2026.
This review surveys recent advances in boron delivery agents for BNCT, emphasizing the shift from classical small molecules to multifunctional nanocarriers and theranostic systems. By integrating targeting, imaging, and therapy, next‐generation boron compounds aim to bridge the gap between (bio)chemical innovation and clinical translation.

Ubc9‐mediated SUMOylation of Ninj1 alleviates inflammatory responses in hepatic ischaemia/reperfusion injury

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Ubc9 expression is downregulated in hepatocytes during hepatic I/R injury. Higher UBC9 expression is associated with improved post‐LT liver function. Ubc9 ameliorates liver damage and inflammation responses in hepatic I/R injury. Ubc9‐mediated Ninj1 SUMOylation at K103 is essential for regulating the subcellular distribution of Ninj1. Ubc9 inhibits the

From niche theory to demographic realities: the demographic niche concept for understanding range‐wide population dynamics

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 5, May 2026.
The ecological niche concept is fundamental to understanding species distributions but often overlooks the demographic processes shaping said distributions. Conversely, demographic theory has traditionally neglected how vital rates vary and covary across environments, limiting our understanding of population dynamics across species' ranges.
