Appropriation, Indigenous knowledge, and generative AI

open access: yesAmerican Ethnologist, Volume 53, Issue 2, Page 125-127, May 2026.
Abstract This commentary examines the relationship between First Nations’ knowledge, AI, and cultural appropriation from the perspective of an Indigenous scholar and journal editor. The author highlights the potential conflicts between who controls AI and First Nations sovereignty.

Amino Acid Imbalance Is an Independent Factor for Mortality in Patients With Liver Cirrhosis

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 63, Issue 9, Page 1265-1271, May 2026.
Amino acid imbalance, reflected by a low branched‐chain amino acids (BCAA)‐to‐tyrosine ratio (BTR), independently predicts mortality in patients with cirrhosis. Both decreased serum BCAA and increased tyrosine levels are significant and independent prognostic markers.

The Alpha‐1 Pi*MZ Genotype Is an Independent Risk Factor for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Development in Patients With ACLD

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 63, Issue 10, Page 1380-1389, May 2026.
Alpha‐1 antitrypsin deficiency is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and the liver. The role of the heterozygous genetic defect in the development of liver cancer in patients with cirrhosis is unclear. Our study found that carrying the Pi*MZ genotype increases the risk of developing liver cancer.

A topological exploration of convergence/divergence of human‐mediated and algorithmically mediated pedagogy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, Volume 57, Issue 3, Page 619-638, May 2026.
We explore a topological model that situates teachers' agency as a constituent element within the convergent and divergent dynamics at the intersection of human‐mediated and algorithmically mediated pedagogies. Ubiquitous AI in education is designed to simulate, emulate and automate human processes and behaviours through datafication.

The Role of Movement on the Development of the Audiotactile Temporal Binding Window

open access: yesDevelopmental Science, Volume 29, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The perception of temporal correspondence between sensory signals from body movements and those arising through environmental interactions is crucial for multisensory integration and adaptive behavior. In adults, the perception of multisensory temporal alignment is more accurate during active than passive or no movement.
