Sleep characteristics in the turkey Meleagris gallopavo
Physiology & Behavior, 2003Electrophysiological and behavioral characteristics of the states of vigilance were analyzed in chronically implanted specimens of the turkey Meleagris gallopavo (M. gallopavo). Five different states of vigilance were observed throughout the nyctohemeral period: active wakefulness (AW), quiet wakefulness (QW), drowsiness (D), slow wave sleep (SWS) and ...

Mycoplasma iowae in turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo)
World's Poultry Science Journal, 2013Mycoplasma are a successful group of pathogens because of their ability to enter and colonise a host, whilst, at the same time, evading the bird's immune response. Mycoplasma iowae (MI) is no exception and, while mostly being a pathogen of turkeys, it can be found in other domestic poultry.

Plasma lipoprotein distribution in the turkey (Meleagris gallopavo)
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2001The plasma lipoprotein profile has been determined in fasted 7-week-old male turkeys. Lipoprotein classes were subfractionated by density gradient ultracentrifugation. According to phospholipid concentration over the density gradient, an initial peak was visible in the usual LDL density range, whereas two peaks were detected in that of HDL.

Matrix metalloproteinase activities of turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) bile
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Toxicology & Pharmacology, 2001The bile from turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) gall bladders was found to contain substantial matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activities using gelatin, collagen, and casein substrate zymography, [3H]labeled collagen degradation assays, and gelatin-agarose affinity purification.

Precocial sexual behaviour in turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo L.)
Animal Behaviour, 1970Abstract Precocial struts were observed in 95 per cent of turkey poults of both sexes, wild and domesticated. In male turkey poults it occurred with about constant frequency up to day 100 (domesticated turkey: 0·6 struts per hr of observation time; wild turkeys: 0·1 struts per hr observation time) and dramatically increased in frequency after day 130,

Experimental Toxoplasma gondii oocyst infections in turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo)
Veterinary Parasitology, 2013Toxoplasma (T.) gondii is a protozoan parasite with a broad range of intermediate hosts. Humans are often infected by ingestion of tissue cysts in raw or undercooked meat or meat products. Turkeys as food-producing animals can also serve as intermediate hosts.
