Ducks across the pond ‐ challenges and opportunities for collaboration between North America and Europe

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView.
Abstract Many waterfowl species and closely related congeners are shared across the Holarctic, and are culturally and economically important in both North America and Europe. Courtship display behavior influences tail myology in Centrocercus minimus (Gunnison sage‐grouse)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Courtship displays among birds are widespread, particularly those which incorporate raised tail feathers for extended periods of time. The Gunnison sage‐grouse (Centrocercus minimus) is such a species. When we compared the tail muscles of the sage‐grouse to birds which do not engage in erected tail fan postures, both morphology proportional mass ...

Spatial and temporal variation in survival of female wild turkeys

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 5, July 2026.
We monitored 370 female wild turkeys across North Carolina's 3 ecoregions from 2020‐2022 to understand factors influencing their survival. Female survival varied by ecoregion and behavior state, with the incubation period having the lowest survival rates. None of the land cover variables affected survival.

In Silco Mapping of ESTs from the Turkey (Meleagris Gallopavo)

open access: yesAnimal Biotechnology, 2005
Sequence similarity was used to predict the position of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) in the genome of the turkey (Meleagris gallopavo). Turkey EST sequences were compared with the draft assembly of the chicken whole-genome sequence and the chicken EST database by BLASTN.
