Structural and Functional Shifts in Belowground Components Following Grass Invasion in a Tropical Savannah

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 37, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Our study reveals that the belowground component of Cerrado savannahs invaded by Urochloa brizantha is functionally and structurally different from that of non‐invaded areas. Invaded areas were dominated by the invader's fine roots and rhizomes, with reduced bud bank density.

Insecticidal activity of a Melinis minutiflora grass extract on Stomoxys calcitrans flies

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Ciencias Pecuarias, 2011
Several extraction methods were utilized to study the insecticidal activity of a Melinis minutiflora grass extract. Four concentrations (10, 20, 40, 80%) of the product which had the highest yield (i.e., a wax-free hexane extract) were tested to establish its insecticidal activity on S. calcitrans flies (adults and larvae).

Effects of Long‐Term Nutrient Addition on Leaf Metabolites, Herbivory, and Mycorrhizal Spores Associated With a Savannah Woody Species

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Given the importance of soil conditions for ecosystem functioning, fertilisation experiments are a valuable tool for assessing how systems respond to changes in soil properties. However, the effects of changes in nutrient availability on multitrophic interactions in savannah ecosystems of the Brazilian Cerrado are still scarce. We investigated

Allelopathic hypotheses revisited: the interactions between native and exotic species in the Brazilian savanna [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
We investigated allelopathic interactions between native and exotic species of the Cerrado biome. We studied the effects of the exotic Andropogon gayanus and the native A. bicornis on the initial growth of two native (A. fastigiatus and Lepidaploa aurea)

Efeito inibidor dos extratos hidroalcóolicos de coberturas mortas sobre a germinação de sementes de cenoura e alface Inhibitory effects of hydroalcoholic extracts of five plant species used as mulches on germination of lettuce and carrot seeds

open access: yesPlanta Daninha, 1999

Insights on the Potential of Natural Regeneration to Restore Cerrado Open Ecosystems

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 9, September 2025.
The colonisation potential of native Cerrado species in degraded areas will depend on the remaining underground structures and not on seed rain from nearby conserved remnants. Effective restoration of the Cerrado will not be possible without active restoration, if the bud‐bank are not present in the system.
