The Past, Present, and Future of Meliponiculture in Mexico
2018Accounts on ancient meliponiculture are not abundant for the Americas. Most pre-Columbian evidence comes from Mexico, in particular from the Yucatan Peninsula. Early accounts from Spaniards indicate that outstanding levels of husbandry and large concentrations of colonies of Melipona beecheii (‘Xunan kab’ in Mayan) were present in the region.

Traditional knowledge of meliponiculture (stingless bee keeping) is a land-use legacy. Scaptotrigona species successfully kept in Ecuador, Mexico, and Venezuela stand on diverse backgrounds (tradition, availability, handiness, empirical evidence). Sustainable techniques are needed to improve management of stingless bees and to protect pollinator-plant ...

Meliponiculture: Importance in Sustainable Economy & Challenges
Stingless bees are eusocial insects with vestigial stings. Stingless bee keeping is known as the meliponiculture. Now a days the number of wild and managed bee colonies are declining so that cause global concern in applied pollination so meliponiculture is practiced to minimize this threat. But the deforestation and poor management practices of hive isopenaire +1 more source
Abstract Insects, especially those distributed in tropical forests, are greatly impacted by shortfalls in biodiversity knowledge. It is no surprise, then, that there are considerable gaps of knowledge on geographic distribution and taxonomy in the most diverse group of Amazonian bees, stingless bees (tribe Meliponini).
