Multiphase rheology as a cause for stick-slip like melt extraction
Abstract When partial melting is parametrized in numerical thermo-mechanical models in a straightforward manner, it directly relates to variations in temperature. However, melt extraction is, to our knowledge rarely taken into account in these models, even if melt extraction and escape have a key influence on the mechanical behaviour of the entire ...

A model of episodic melt extraction for plumes [PDF]
A model of melt segregation and extraction within rising plumes is proposed. It is based on two‐phase porous flow within the partially molten region, combined with only three extraction parameters. The conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy are solved for a two‐phase melt matrix system.

Melt extraction from partially molten peridotites
We measured the rate of melt extraction from partially molten olivine aggregates into a porous reservoir as a function of melt content (ϕ), melt viscosity, grain size, and pressure difference. Samples were prepared using mixtures of olivine and either lithium silicate, MORB glass, or albite glass to obtain a range in melt viscosities.

Tensile Properties and Fracture Reliability of Melt-extracted Gd-rich Amorphous Wires [PDF]
Gd60Al20Co20 amorphous wires with smooth surfaces and circular cross-sections were fabricated by a melt-extraction technique. The mechanical properties of the extracted microwires were evaluated by tensile tests and their fracture reliability was ...

Magnetocaloric Effect in Uncoated Gd55Al20Co25 Amorphous Wires [PDF]
The Gd55Al20Co25 amorphous wires exhibit a relatively strong magnetocaloric effect (MCE). These melt-extracted amorphous wires display second-order magnetic transition (SOMT) and the value of maximal magnetic entropy (–ΔSm) for the melt-extracted wires ...

Superelasticity in Polycrystalline Ni-Mn-Ga-Fe Microwires Fabricated by Melt-extraction [PDF]
Ni48Mn26.4Ga19.7Fe5.9 microwires with grain size of 1-3 micron were successfully fabricated by melt-extraction. The superelastic effects in the microwires under various temperatures and loads were systematically demonstrated.
